The plumbing snake is one of the most traditional methods of unclogging blocked drain and sewer pipes. This method is still widely used by 24 Hour Plumber Los Angeles though there are other, more technologically advanced methods of eliminating clogs in drains and pipes. However, with recent advances in plumbing industry, use of traditional plumbing snakes is on decline and it is so for all the right reasons. Though the plumbing snake is a plumber's tried and tested friend, but if it is used in an incorrect manner by a rookie plumber, it is likely to cause more harm than good.

Why? Read on to know why and how it is not suggested to be used unless you're an experienced and expert plumbing contractor.
  • Damaged Porcelain- The metal tip of the traditional plumbing snake can scratch the porcelain of your sinks and toilets, if used in improper manner. Scratches caused by plumbing snakes can not only ruin the appearance of sinks or toilets, but also it could lead to faster degradation of your porcelain. The reason why it can easily get damaged is because the underlying material below the surface of the porcelain isn't as durable and is vulnerable to rusting and decay.

  • Incorrect Application- Any plumbing tool or equipment, when used incorrectly, can do more harm than good and it is most evident in improper application of plumbing snake. If you're nor a professional Emergency Plumber Los Angeles, you probably do not know the difference between a top snake, a mini-rooter, a toilet auger, and a large drain snake. Using the wrong tools on your drains or pipes can make your plumbing problem worse.
  • Injuries- Injuries can and will happen as motorized plumbing snakes can be a risky tool to use if you don't have the required experience and knowledge of handling it. Unless you know how to use them in a proper manner, you are putting your personal safety at risk and you'll be responsible for it.
  • Damaged Pipes- The head of the plumbing snake may damage inside of the pipe if it is old and made of galvanized materials. Over time, the scratch can turn to rust and weaken the structural integrity of the pipe which may lead to cracked or burst pipes.
